No matter how many people you're cooking for dutch ovens are the way to go. We carry a complete line of dutch ovens that make cooking inside or out a complete breeze.
What Exactly Are Dutch Ovens?
When most people think of Dutch ovens the first thing that comes to mind is gross, I am sure that everyone knows what the really smelly Dutch oven is. But that's not the Dutch oven that I am referring to here is a heavy cast-iron pot with a cast-iron lid.
What they're used for is you can put them over an open fire and they will act as an oven. You can bake bread or rolls over the fire. They are also used for long-duration, slow cooking, a pot that you would make roasts, casseroles and stews in. They were used in the old West as a complete kitchen.
The dutch ovens are very versatile considering you can bake and cook in it. They are the same material as your common cast-iron skillets. They are very heavy but that is what makes them very sturdy. When you season them they are nonstick so easy to cook with.
When you are around a camp fire the Dutch oven is right at home. There is something about looking at a camp fire with that big pot in it. It does not matter if you have corn bread or a big heaping pot of stew in it. The thing sort of sets the mood, and that mood is the outdoors.
There are some dutch ovens that are made for the stove tops. You can use them to cook inside with. They are not as big there fore not as heavy. But that sort of defeats the purpose of the oven. If you are inside of your house then you will have an oven to use. So for me this is an outside cool weather camping item.
Dutch ovens are something that is at home out doors. And are a treat to cook with, it should be in the arsenal of anyone that likes to camp outdoors. |
