Another Lesson On How To Deep Fry Turkey:
For some, the idea of deep frying the turkey is a little bit strange. And while this is a far cry from the traditional oven roasted version, it is nice to try something different every now and then. Who knows, you might create a new tradition. You might also be surprised to note that the deep fried turkey is quite moist and delicious. Here are a few tips concerning how to deep fry turkey properly:
You will need a deep fryer to start off, one that is quite large, at least a forty or eighty quart size. You will also need a propane gas tank and the burner, as well as a thermometer and an appropriate amount of oil. Most recommend using corn, canola, or peanut oil for this process.
To determine the amount of oil needed, set the bird inside the fryer and cover it completely with water. Mark the level of water, and take note that this is exactly how much oil you will need to properly fry the bird. This will usually be from three to five gallons of oil.
It is always better to fry a smaller turkey to make this process easier. Most recommend not going over fifteen pounds for the best results.
You can choose to inject your turkey with a special marinade before cooking for an extra boost of flavor. Some will even rub it with their favorite dry rub. Both of these are good options to ensure optimal flavor.
Pour the oil in the pot and heat it to 350. Make sure to plan for this, as it will take an extra twenty or thirty minutes. Then once the oil is heated, add the bird slowly, placing the thermometer in the oil to make sure that it stays at a constant temperature of 350.
