How And Why Power Equipment Rules
If you were a kid growing up in the Forties or Fifties you may have had the dubious pleasure of mowing the lawn by walking behind a contraption consisting of a roller and blades rotating between two wheels. Sometimes there was a bag to catch the grass and sometimes it just flew back toward your feet. It was quieter than the power equipment currently used for lawn mowing and quite a bit slower. It took what used to be called elbow grease to keep it going. Cutting firewood in the old days was quite a bit more involved than today too and involved a lot more expenditure of energy to get the job done. First the tree had to come down with the use of an axe. Then the logs had to be hand-sawed. Finally the sawed logs had to be split into smaller pieces. Today it's a simple matter to cut the tree with a chain saw and then buck the trunk into smaller logs. A mechanical log splitter can then be used to make smaller pieces. Even the branches can be fed into a shredder to make usable bark dust for landscaping purposes.

What used to require back-breaking work to keep the yard looking good is now much easier with the use of power equipment tools. Carpentry work that required hammers, hand saws and hand planes has been replaced by nail guns, circular saws and mechanical planes. Power equipment can be dangerous for those who are not careful in its use but it's certainly a time-saving option when doing almost any job. Purists may prefer to use old-style equipment and hand tools but those who want the job done quicker and easier will opt for power equipment. It's the difference between taking an hour to rake up the leaves or being able to clean them in fifteen minutes with a leaf blower. Most power garden tools come with a choice of electric or gas power. Gas gives more freedom of movement. Electric is cheaper, quieter and smells much better!
